OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Rehabilitation

It is important that a mining operation plans it’s closure as part of the initial mine construction plan to ensure that maximum efficiency in waste management and environmental rehabilitation is achieved and that the total costs of mining over the life of mine are reduced.

A mine closure plan has been developed as part of the bankable feasibility study and the regulatory approval process. This closure plan can be seen in the Environmental Adjustment Plan (PDF - 10.2MB). This closure plan will be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect any changes as the mine construction plan is refined and finalised.

As the project has not yet commenced the construction phase, all rehabilitation carried out so far relates to exploration activities. When an exploration drill hole is completed the hole is capped, and the work area cleaned of rubbish and any hydrocarbon or chemical residues. Test pits are back filled. Full details can be seen in the Rapport Environnemental Annuel 2006 Projet de Kalukundi (PDF - 421KB).
