As an international resource company, Africo realizes it is a guest in the countries in which it operates. We respect local culture and customs and will use our social development programs to integrate into the surrounding community. Our social programs are driven by our values and aimed at ensuring the community realise genuine and lasting benefits from Africo's presence in the area.
In developing our Social Development Plan, we will utilise a process defined as 'Participatory Rural Appraisals' that ensures the community will have full involvement and ownership of all projects that we partner in. Our considered areas of involvement will include health, education and agricultural projects.
Africo continues to lend support to education in Kisankala Village and has increased the number of teachers subsidized from three to six. The company recently handed out some school books and equipment in the village.

In late September 2007 Kisankala Village received its first supply of tap water since its inception in 1961! The project which was inaugurated by Chief Semba and the Kisankala Development Commitee consists of two 10,000 Litre tanks and 7 tap outlets.
Kisankala village was out in full force on the 8th of November for a water and sanitation sensitization workshop coordinated by a local Non Governmental Organisation, ARDERI. The session was conducted with input from a theatrical troupe and was highly interactive. Several members of the community received prizes in a number of competitions held, and there was much healthy debate throughout.
